Leading Crisis Communication and the “Seeking the Good” Campaign During COVID-19

When COVID-19 halted in-person gatherings, West Shore Free Church needed a clear and compassionate communication strategy to keep the congregation informed, connected, and engaged. In the absence of regular ministry rhythms, the challenge extended beyond logistics to maintaining community and purpose during uncertainty.

My Role

  • Led the church’s overall crisis communication strategy across platforms, including email, web, social media, and livestream updates

  • Created and launched the “Seeking the Good” digital campaign to rally the community around encouragement, service, and shared mission

  • Produced daily social media videos to inspire and uplift

  • Adapted campaign content for the website and weekly newsletter

  • Invited congregation members to participate by submitting photos and videos of their own stories and service moments

Results

  • Increased Instagram reach by 37 percent and follower count by 43 percent

  • Maintained consistent engagement and trust during a disruptive season

  • Fostered a sense of connection and shared purpose despite physical distance

  • Created a steady stream of user-generated content, reinforcing the church’s mission in action
